Short-term extension approved while work continues on HVOCP Amendment Report

HVO has been granted short-term extension of time from the NSW Government to allow ongoing mining until December 2026 within the currently approved area (also known as Modification 8).
This extension was necessary to protect the jobs of our workforce and give certainty to our contractors, community partners, and the businesses that rely on us for work in the region.
Work on the proposed HVO Continuation Project (HVOCP) is ongoing in response to NSW Government request for more detailed information as part of its assessment of our proposal. We are undertaking additional modelling and mine planning to provide this information. This will be presented in an HVOCP Amendment Report, which is expected to be submitted in August.
The HVOCP Amendment Report will outline significant changes to the continuation project, including but not limited to:
- Reduced project mine plan
- Limit on overall coal production
- Reduced life of mine
- Material reduction in greenhouse gas emissions
The Amendment Report will also outline and update the anticipated environmental impacts of HVOCP compared to the initial project proposal.
The HVOCP is now entering its fifth year of the project approval process. Both Yancoal and Glencore who are JV Partners in HVO have repeatedly stressed the need for regulatory clarity and consistency between the New South Wales and the Federal Governments to avoid duplication or unintended negative consequences with over 1,500 jobs in the Hunter at stake.
